Baby Avery | Louisville Baby Photographer
Not only is this little doll adorable and sweet but… normally I get the punishment of having to say bye to little ones after we work together. Not this sweetheart! I have the privilege of baby sitting her a couple times a week (Me and her mom met from her hiring me to photograph her birth. Her birth was as beautiful as she is!)
So look at the cutie I get to hang out with on a regular basis…
I’m entering a contest
As most artists are, I am my worst critic. I often hear of photo contests and have people encourage me to enter but I’ll put it off, or tell myself I’m not THAT good, etc.
Well. Enough of that! My wonderful assistant sent me a link to this contest by improvephotography.com and insists I enter, so I am.
And on that note, here are some cute kids.
R Family | Louisville Family Photography
A friend of this family noticed they didn’t have many pictures as a family and decided they needed to fix that!
We met at Central park, and despite the freezing temps, got a few shots that really captured everyones personality.
Sweet little Flora | Louisville Birth & Newborn Photographer
If you enter my site from the “front”… www.jesdeis.com you may notice the section for “Birth Photography”. If you click it, it will take you to LouisvilleBirthPhotography.com. This is my newest baby.
Really, it’s not all that new. I photographed my first birth when my second daughter, Dorothy, was a month old (she’ll be 4 next month). Seriously, I had her in a sling for the entire birth.
I was hooked, but living in a small eastern NC town, and not being sure everyone would be as accepting of me walking around their birth space wearing my young child, I didn’t really pursue it at the time.
We moved here. Dorothy was too old to wear and expect to maintain silence throughout a birth and I didn’t know anyone to have on call for child care should I get called to a birth. Time passed. My husband lost his job, decided to go back to school, and I got pregnant again. A sweet lady that would soon become my friend also got pregnant. About a month after me. I practically begged her to let me photograph her home birth and she obliged. Once more, I was at a birth, with a baby strapped to my chest. (This is not including the birth that I mostly doula’d for, but took a few pictures when I could, while I was pregnant with Veda)
I am now up to twelve. Twelve births where I’ve been invited to the space (no, I didn’t wear a baby for any of the others).
Here is a slideshow from one of the recent ones.
and some pictures of sweet little Flora after she was all settled in at home…
Holiday Portrait Session Giveaway
I am well aware of how many families cannot afford the luxury of professional portraits. Believe it or not, my family is one of them.
It’s true, I could not afford to hire myself to do what I do. Does that sound crazy?
So, I know how special something as simple as personalized, professional, portraits can be to a family that otherwise would not even be able to consider them.
Because of this, I would like to offer my time and talent, as well as some custom designed, professionally printed holiday cards, to a family that would otherwise be stuck with snapshots, Sears, etc.
- The session can be outdoors (though, I am incapable of controlling the weather. Fortunately I won’t be in the pictures though, so it’s ok if I’m bundled up and freezing.) or in their home.
- I will not charge the family a dime, and I won’t even push for them to purchase prints. They are certainly welcome to and I will provide a gallery for them to share with family members should anyone else like to, but it is in no way required.
- I will include 25 4×5.5″ cards with a custom design including one or more photos and a greeting on both sides. Envelopes included.
- I will provide them with images of their choosing for sharing in email and on facebook, etc.
- The session can be a family, a pregnant mother, new baby, young child, older child, etc. Really whatever the family feels like fills their needs best.
If you know someone (or even more than one someone) that is deserving of this gift, please email me at jes.deis@gmail.com (or use the contact form here) with a brief story as to who you’d like to nominate, and why you think they’re deserving.
I will use a panel of judges (yes, really. I can’t be responsible for choosing myself, can I?) and notify you by email if the family you nominated was chosen. You can then tell the family how they got the session, or you can just say it’s a gift from you. I’ll even send along a gift card to print and pass along. They can then schedule their session any time during the first half of December.
I will close entries at 11:59pm on Tuesday November 29th then notify the nominator of the chosen family before December 2nd.
And since all posts need pictures, look at this cutie!
Sam, The Fighter | Louisville KY Child Photographer
This is Sam.
Sam has been battling Neuroblastoma for over a year now.
(You can learn more about Sam here, and read Sam’s story here.
I first got to meet Sam around Halloween of last year. It was the closest his family could schedule to his first birthday (Thanksgiving) since he was going to be in and out of the hospital for treatments over his birthday.
He is an amazing boy to watch. I had to force myself to take pictures, because I really wanted to just drink in his fantasticness. He’s definitely one of those kids that I could just watch walk, and investigate the world around him, for hours.
Little T | Louisville KY Child Photographer
This is little T, his mama adopted him from ethiopia a little over a year ago. (That was when I first met him and his mom. She had asked me to take pictures of them, and mostly him, to celebrate and commemorate them being together for their first year.)
I’m not sure I’ve ever met a little boy so young, yet so full of personality, and love! I feel like I should be PAYING to take pictures of him. He’s absolutely adorable, and a blast to be around!
Just look…
Grahm & Ruby | Louisville Child Photographer
These kids were a lot of fun to work with. Despite the insane heat, they were ready to play and show me their spunk.
Their spunk just so happened to be photo worthy.
Their mother wanted something sort of warehousy/industrial (I love switching up scenery. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the natural setting of the park (hence why I suggest it to so many) but, it keeps me from running out of ideas when a client wants to try something new every now and then) so we hit up a little industrial area in the city, and it provided us with exactly the settings we wanted.
August mini session deal
A lot of photographers do mini sessions.
A lot of photographers do them differently from one another.
I’ve tried a couple different… methods? and this is me telling you, I’m going to try one more (not because the others failed, I just like variety. I’m sure it will be something different next time. I’ll have to see what I can come up with.)
For this weekend only (ending 11:59pm on Sunday, July 17th) you (or whoever) can go to my booking site and schedule a mini session for any time between August 1st and August 15th (that’s available of course)
What you get: 30-45 minutes of my undivided attention, with lots of shutter clicks.
An online gallery for proofing within 5 days of the shoot (It usually only takes 2-3 days, but I try to err on the side of caution)
Your favorite image printed as an 8×10, or 2 5×7′s, along with up to 4 images edited for facebook/email/etc.
(and of course you can order more if you feel so inclined)
Where: These sessions can be held at Shawnee park, or downtown, along the riverwalk/waterfront.
How much: Sessions at Shawnee park will be $40, while sessions downtown will be $50. $25 payment must be made in advance (remainder due at time of session, after booking, you can email me, or I’ll email you, to make payment arrangements. I accept paypal, credit card (via paypal, no need for an account), cash, check, and money order)
I think that covers everything! If I left something out, or you have a question, feel free to comment here, or contact me directly!
T Family | Eastern NC portrait photographer
Melissa is another one of those that entrusted me to photograph her children early on. I guess she too was/continues to be impressed enough to have me do it again and again.
Have I ever mentioned how much I enjoy watching children grow up through my lens? (I’m sure I have)
So this last trip to NC Melissa scheduled a session and asked me to meet her at this amazing little mass of trees on Emerald Isle. Her boys, bigger than ever, climbed all over and had a blast.
